What are some different cures for acne?

Question: What are some different cures for acne?

I'm at 17 year old girl and my face has been breaking out pretty consistently since I was about 11. I had a pretty bad outbreak the summer before I turned 16, when my jaw, my chin, my neck, and under my nose was covered with purple-looking acne. It went away eventually, but it stayed for about 4 months. Now, my skin is not nearly as bad, but I still have frequent break outs and a ton of red scar marks, and my skin is wicked dry. I have tried everything: Proactiv, Neutrogena cleansers, tetracycline, masks, and what I've had close to the most luck with is a retinol cream. I'm on a birth control pill (Lo-estrin 21) and my doctor said that might clean up my skin, I've only been on it for about 10 days, but so far nothing has happened. I know having acne is one of the things that comes with being a teenager, but having had noticeable acne for about 6 years is getting a little old. Any suggestions?

Ok well my dermatologist gave me clenziderm and it works amazingly! it stings a little the first time you use it, but it works very well. It is kind of expensive but it is the best! I 'm pretty sure the only place you can get it is off of amazon. and like i said it is expensive, but it works!

I suffered acne well into adulthood. then I came across an article in a health magazine of the time and followed its advice. It was strict, but I ended up with beautiful skin for the first time since pre-puberty. It advised to eat masses of raw fruit and veg, including raw cabbage and carrots daily. Low saturated fats. Absolutely no sugar, apart from the natural sweetness of fruit. And supplements of zinc and vitamin A, amongst others. They were the main two, though B complex was another. there were more, I was rattling from the amount of supplements I was taking in all honesty! Please get advice from your doctor, though, before taking the supplements, as too much is bad for you, especially vitamin A. Even if you don 't take the supplements it may be worth trying the diet for a month or two if you have the willpower. My typical day was: a huge bowl of sugar-free muesli with extra wheatgerm and skimmed milk for breakfast, Both lunch and dinner comprised of: a massive salad with raw white cabbage, carrot, tomatoes, onion, lots of other stuff, with either cottage cheese, skinless chicken, a lean meat or other low fat protein. Wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, brown rice etc. Lots of fruit whenever I wanted it. And natural yogurt - luckily I love the stuff! Because after a short while I had no desire to eat sugar laden stuff like chocolate, biscuits or cakes, I started really enjoying fruit with yogurt for desert, or even cottage cheese with pineapple! I gave up caffeine (I used to drink gallons of coffee!) but I can 't recall if the article said to do this. Anyway, it took a couple of months, but I ended up with a complexion that I was proud of. I must add, just because it worked for me doesn 't mean it will work for you, and it takes willpower and perseverance, but it may be something that you might consider if you want to see if you can get a good skin without medications. By the way, I hope you realise that whatever you do, your skin really needs at least three weeks to show results, whether you use diet, topical antibiotics, oral treatment or whatever. There is no quick fix. I know that certain types of the pill can have a remarkable effect on acne. But once again, you have to give it time! Once I had got back into the habit of, years down the line, a more average diet (still lots of veg and fruit but also relying too much at times on convenience stuff, and the odd sweet thing) I found I needed help again. I took a contraceptive pill called Dianette, which was anti-androgen type pill, but I think that has been superceded by much better ones, health wise. It really did the job. I am assuming that the pill you are on is a similar one, only more advanced than Dianette. So give it time, and if after a couple of months it isn 't working, maybe go back to your doctor, and discuss the diet I was advised. And as I said before, if you want to also take the zinc and vitamin A that was part of this regime, make sure you talk to your doctor about this. By the way, please bear in mind also that this was not a calorie restricted diet - I ate as much as I wanted Good luck, and be patient! xx
