Can i use tea tree oil to treat acne?

Question: Can i use tea tree oil to treat acne?

(Posted by: Anonymous on 2010-01-16 16:59:05)

I have a small bottle of tea tree oil that I use to treat piercing bumps and I found it to be really effective. Will tea tree oil be just as effective on pimples? I have a big red pimple on my face and I am a little wary of what will happen if I dab some on it. Will it leave marks or can it make the redness go away?

I really wouldn 't try it. Oil and fatty acids are a huge factor in the precipitation of acne

I think you can talk to your doctor about some anti inflammatory treatment for making a pimple go away fast, I wouldn 't go around your face popping so many pimples though, I think most discoloration will eventually disappear, but you can get scarring sometimes.

Try it. I heard toothpaste works. Try them one at a time for a couple of weeks each to see if you can tell what works. Also, watch your diet with sweets and greasy foods. If this doesn 't work, there are some commercial products on the market that may help. If not, see a dermatologist. Above all, do not pick at it. That 's how people get permanent pock mock scars.

I use tea tree oil and really like it as it dries out and prevents acne. I use it straight but if you want it milder, look for a anti-acne lotion with it in it. Tea tree won 't help the redness but then few acne treatments do. I use a cream with 10% glycolic acid which has worked really well but the best treatment for red marks by far is stopping new acne and time (really - they do fade eventually) Don 't try toothpaste, it will burn your skin (trust me, I know :( ) and don 't pop them as they will scar.
